Chichen Itza
A trip to Oasis would have been nothing without a trip to one of the world’s seven wonders: Chichen Itza, a venue that holds a truly marvellous story and was a valuable witness from the rise and fall of a mighty civilization.
The Mayas became famous for predicting the "end of the world" in 2012, or so it was said, when in reality all that marked their calendars was the end of an era and the beginning of another. Instead of centuries, the Mayas had cycles of 52 years in which the lunar calendar and the religious calendar synchronized.
Each of these cycles is represented by a level of the pyramid, better known as the Kukulkan temple. I find it really fascinating, especially because of the speed in which our society thrives these days, where everything is made and shared in an instant.
Patience, labor, the structure and design that took over 400 years to materialize is beautiful... For that, this pyramid is one of the 7 wonders of humanity. The plan that day was to go and absorb the culture and history that the place exudes.
The climate is quite tropical  in Yucatan so I went for a dress. sunbonnet and my most comfortable sneakers. I didn't wear sandals because the archaeological site is unpaved and it is better to have some support to be able to walk for hours. Sometimes it is wise to put comfort and practicality over glamour ... Good thing the oversized dress covered my feet :P.
Chichen Itza is really a beautiful place. I seriously encourage you to go if you can!
